Alchemist Holographic Palette | Review

Holographic seems to be all the rage right now. In beauty and fashion. One of the newest “holographic” releases was the Kat Von D Alchemist palette. But is it really holographic?

The packaging for this palette is so visually stunning. KVD does an amazing job with packaging. Kat herself usually designs the packaging for all of the products and spends months making sure its creative and beautiful. This palette is no exception.

Holographic seems to be everywhere (here, here, here, here, here and here) in fashion and beauty right now. Now while I am a makeup lover, I also try to buy makeup that I will actually use more than once. So some of this holographic trend just doesn’t fit my needs or personal style.

When I spotted the Alchemist palette from KVD I fell in love. (Confession, I actually went to two different Sephora’s trying to find this palette). I felt that the shades were versatile enough that I would be able to work this into my makeup looks easily.

Top to Bottom: Emerald, Amethyst, Saphyre, Opal (heavy swatches)

The shades are difficult to capture in the pan since they look almost like a plain white powder. But when the light reflects off of them and when they are swatched they are beautiful. They are smooth powders, although not buttery like some highlight formula’s are. They blend well and are easy to sheer out if you are not looking for intense color payoff.

By themselves, as eyeshadows, they are on the sheer side and give off reflective properties. The same can be said when they are used as a cheek highlight. But if layered over a dark base, such as a black eye base or black lipstick, the shades become more opaque and the actual color is more apparent.

Overall I am very pleased with this palette. Even if you are not overly adventurous with your makeup, this would be a great palette to own. The colors are versatile, easy to work with, and might inspire you to create a bold look.

What other holographic makeup items are you loving? Which ones do you think I should try?
