Happy Thanksgiving | 2017

HAPPY THANKSGIVING! Wherever you are and whomever you are spending today with, I wish you a wonderful day and a day where you can reflect on the blessings in your life and what you are thankful for.

This morning I will be participating in Sacramento’s annual Run to Feed the Hungry race which benefits the Sacramento Food Bank and Family Services. It’s a great way to start off the day knowing that my city has come together to raise money for a great organization that gives back to the community in so many ways.

Around this time every year I try and reflect about the past year. It can be very easy to get caught up in comparing yourself to others or what you haven’t done or don’t have, especially in this age of social media. A lot of what we see online in blogs, Instagram, Facebook and YouTube are just staged snip-its of people’s lives. While there is nothing wrong with posting a staged photo (I do it too), its when people start to believe that those photos reflect real life and feelings of inadequacy can set in.

I found this quote on Pinterest forever ago and it went along the lines of “don’t compare your beginning to someone’s finale”. I think there is a lot of truth to that. People offer a glimpse into their lives but you don’t know where that person has been or where they started from.

I sometimes get caught up in comparing myself to others and thinking that I should be doing so much more. For me this is why Thanksgiving is such an important reminder. To remind myself of where I was a year ago, to count the blessings I do have. Reflect on past years and look at how far I’ve come and to understand how lucky I am.

This year I am thankful for…

…the family I was born into and the friends who have become family…

…a loving and supportive significant other….

…a well paying job and opportunities for growth…

…having a roof over my head, food on the table, and clothes on my back…

…my adorable little dogs…

…my health…

…my little blog and the people who keep coming back to read it…

Take today to find what your thankful for and to count your blessings, no matter how big or small. Hug the people you are with and eat a lot of turkey and mashed potatoes!

Happy Thanksgiving from my little family to yours.
