Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s is tomorrow and I find that it is either a holiday that you love or hate. There are people who hate it, think its too much pressure and that it is a commercially made up holiday. Then you have people who just love love. I am one of those love love people.

I personally love Valentine’s Day. For me it is a day that reminds you to pay some extra attention to the relationships you have in your life. This can me romantic relationships, friendships, and family. Sometimes we get so caught up in the hustle and bustle of everyday life that we end up taking those relationships for granted.

I view relationships like plants. You care for them, they will grow and be better and stronger. If you neglect relationships they won’t flourish. My fiance and I don’t make Valentine’s Day a big production because it is right in the middle of our birthdays and anniversary. But we do recognize it. Get each other cards and maybe make a nice home cooked meal.

I wanted to do a Valentine’s Day look that wasn’t overly pink or too sweet. I think these mauve tones are just right, paired with just a little shimmer because why not!

I recently picked up one of the new Stila Shimmer & Glow liquid eyeshadows (I’m obsessed with the glitter version here and here) and the Dose of Colors Marvelous Mauves eyeshadow palette from Ulta using my birthday coupon. This is my first Dose of Colors purchase and I have to say I’m impressed. But on to the tutorial!

I used all the shades in the Marvelous Mauves palette in order of lightest to darkest.

I started with Fluffy in the upper crease. Sadly this shade is barely darker than my skin, but it is a beautiful light pink shade.

Next I blended Rosy in the lower crease.

I blended Wishy Washy on the outer corner and crease. This might be one of my favorite shades in the palette.

I used a combination of Spaced Out and Wine Stain on the outer corner to intensify the look.

I repeated similar steps on the lower lash line. I used a pencil brush for Wine stain and blended that into the outer lash line. Blended and smoked everything out with Wishy Washy and Rosy.

I used the Stila Shimmer and Glow in cloud on the lid. Its so easy to create a cut crease with this product because of the applicator.

I applied mascara and used Wet n Wild highlighter in Blossom Glow for the inner corner and brow bone.

I finished up the look with one of KVD Studded Lipsticks in the shade Lovecraft.

What do you think of this purpley smoky eye? Is this something you would wear on a Valentine’s Day date? What are you guys doing tonight? Whatever it is, I hope you have a great day and cherish the ones you love!
