The makeup industry is SATURATED with warm-toned palettes. I love them, I own some, but a girl needs a little variety in her life sometimes! I found the cutest little cool toned palette from Smashbox and I want to tell you all about it!
Smashbox has a line of small palettes called the Cover Shot palettes, there are currently 8 on Ulta’s website. They all have 8 shades and the palettes range from all mattes, neutrals, metallics, pops of color, and warm or cool tones. These are compact and are great to travel with. A lot of the palettes have enough shades and mixtures of finishes you can create a look just using the palette.
I was so happy when I stumbled upon the Cover Shot: Punked palette, it was the perfect little cool toned palette I was looking for! There are 5 mattes and 3 shimmers and the shades range from light to darks. You could create so many looks from this one palette. I love the packaging. There is a large mirror and it closes tightly so it makes it perfect for travel.
The mattes in this palette are so creamy and blend like a dream. They are not patchy and they don’t skip. The shimmers are shimmery and pigmented. I think they are best applied with a finger, but I think all shimmers/metallic shadows are best applied with a finger.
Swatched from top to bottom: Headliner, Anarkissed, Soft Punch, Destroyer, Punked, Studded, Riot Girl, and Combat Boots. Headliner and Punked are the double pans at the top of the palette.
Here are the swatches in natural sunlight. You can really see how shimmery the shimmers are and how pigmented and smooth the mattes are. The black shade (Combat Boots) isn’t the blackest shade ever, but I don’t mind since I like to be able to build up color. But if you are someone who likes a very deep rich black, then keep that in mind.
There are so many looks that you can create with this palette everything from daytime/work appropriate to smoky/date night. Keep a look out for a tutorial post coming your way featuring this palette.
The next cool toned palette I want to try is the new Fame palette from Colourpop. Are there any others out there that I should try? Are you over the warm toned trend? Let me know!
