It is rare to find a mainstream brand that I have not tried at least one thing from. Almay is one of these rare brands, but I remedied that this week. I picked up a few of their Goddess Glosses from my local CVS and gave them a try.
The CVS near me did not have the full collection in stock, so I could only pick up the four they had in stock. I always think of Almay as a more natural looking brand so some of the colors surprised me, especially Rainbow and Ethereal.
These glosses are part of the larger Almay Cosmic Collection that includes eyeshadow quads that are prismatic and a liquid/jelly highlighter. The packaging is clear so it shows the color of the gloss and the cap is holographic looking to play up on the prismatic theme. They have a standard doe foot applicator.
So lets get to the break down.
Angelic appears almost clear on my lips, but gives a very lovely and subtle prismatic look. This would be very pretty by itself or layered over lipstick to create a top coat effect.
Fairy has a bit more color to the gloss. It is a sheer pink with a golden pink prism, very pretty on its own.
Rainbow is by far the most pigmented of the four I picked up. It is a very vibrant purple with a similar purple prism. This gloss could be worn on its own.
Ethereal was the only one that was a disappointment. This has a blackish base with a purple blueish/green prism to it. This one applied very patchy and I don’t know how often I will reach for this.
These glosses are very interesting and unique to find from a brand like Almay. If you want a prismatic gloss then I think you should give these a try. The gloss is not sticky or goopy, only if you really rub your lips together very hard do you feel the little bits of glitter.
I will probably reach for the lighter colors the most because they are lovely on their own and would look great layered over another lipstick. I would be interested to pick up some of the other colors from Ulta in the future. Overall I like these glosses, they are fun and something different from the drugstore.
