I’ve never been drawn to stick foundations. Mostly they scared me, because of my combo-oily skin I was worried they would be too creamy and just slide off my face. Since most stick foundations are from high end brands I never wanted to spend the money to try something I was already unsure about. Recently the drugstore has been coming out with stick foundations and I felt like now was the time to try them out.
The drugstore has had one or two stick foundations in the past, like this one from Maybelline and NYX. But the new ones from Makeup Revolution and Maybelline are what caught my eye. I was really interested in the Maybelline one since it is the stick version of their SuperStay Foundation, but I haven’t heard great things about it. The Makeup Revolution Fast Base Stick Foundation has created a lot of buzz and since I haven’t tried too much from the brand I decided to go with that one.
I picked up two shades, F1 and F2. F1 is described as Fair with neutral undertones and F2 is described as Fair with yellow undertones. I like the packaging too, I think its really simple and basic with the copper/rose gold accents. The foundation line comes in 18 shades and looking at the descriptions it seems like the shades are spread pretty evenly across the board. I think they could always add shades to the range, but there are just as many deep/dark shades as there are fair shades.
This foundation doesn’t make any claims to be long lasting, but it does claim to be quick and easy to apply, melt into the skin and leave a dewy finish.
I swatched both on the side of my face to see which one would be the best match. F2 is on the left and F1 is on the right. The second picture is of the swatches blended out. I think these shades are beautiful and the undertones are perfect. F2 is not too yellow and F1 is a really nice fair neutral shade, which is hard to find. I honestly could have worn either one but I decided to go with shade F1.
Here is my bare face. I have a bit of redness in my cheeks and as always some hyper pigmentation around my chin.
This is after just applying foundation. I did apply some of my Makeup Revolution Concealer under my eyes but that is it, nothing else is on my face.
As you can see, my skin honestly looks really good. To apply I swiped the stick across my face and used a brush to blend it in. I will say the first time I used this I definitely applied too much product. A little bit goes a long way. But the coverage is amazing, I didn’t have to use any spot concealer, all I did was set my face with powder.
As you can see I definitely have a dewy look to the skin. This foundation glides on to the skin and is very easy to blend, absolutely no tugging. I have worn this a few times now and I will say the staying power is not great. I probably get around 6 hours of good wear time from this before it starts to break down. But I have normal/oily skin and it does break down in the areas that I get oily. If you have dry skin I think this would look beautiful and it may not break down.
I really do like this foundation, I am still going to reach for it when I know I’m not going to be wearing makeup for an extended period of time. I think the shade range is pretty decent and the shades are spread equally across the spectrum. If anything this stick foundation has made me want to try other stick foundations.
If you have any stick foundation recommendations I would love to know in the comments!
