From the moment I first watched Kathleen Lights announcement video on this collection I knew I had to have it. If you haven’t noticed “Zodiac” is quite the theme in the makeup industry, ColourPop isn’t the only makeup company to have released astrological themed makeup recently.
The full collection includes The Zodiac eyeshadow palette, two Supernova Shadows, two Super Shock Highlighter, and two Creme Lux lipsticks. I picked up The Zodiac eyeshadow palette, a Supernova Shadow in Constellation, and one of the Super Shock Highlighters in On The Cusp.
First off, I think the packaging is GORGEOUS. I love the black and navy with rose gold metallic details. The palette includes a mirror on the inside and the names of the shadows are on the back AND under each pan. The packaging for the highlighter and liquid shadow is the normal ColourPop packaging with a twist. But lets get on the good stuff.
The Supernova Shadow in Constellation is a beautiful champagne-leaning-pink shade. I have never tried the Supernova Shadows before so I was excited to get this one and its a color I know I will use all the time. The liquid shadow is opaque, stays put, and highly reflective. Unlike some liquid shadows I’ve used in the past, this does not get too dry, crack or become crumbly over time.
The Super Shock Highlighter in On The Cusp is a very creamy golden champagne. I have also never tried the Super Shock Highlighter formula so this was another one that I was very excited to pick up since I always hear people rave about them. This almost looks wet on the skin. If the other ColourPop highlighters are like this then I definitely need to pick up a few more!
But lets get to the showstopper of the collection. The Zodiac palette. This palette has 12 shades that are a mix of mattes and metallics. In her announcement video, Kathleen discusses how she is very much into astrology and the zodiac and so she spent a lot of time creating each shade to represent that sign.
The inside of the palette follows the same theme of the dark night sky with the rose gold stars. The shade names are under each pan with the appropriate symbol.
I think this palette is beautiful. I already owned the Element of Surprise palette and I like that one so as long as the quality was about the same I figured I would be happy. I have to say I think the quality of these shadows is better than the Element of Surprise. The mattes are a bit more creamy and not as dry feeling. The metallics are pigmented and reflective on their own.
Swatched top to bottom: The Aries, The Taurus, The Gemini, The Cancer, The Leo, The Virgo, The Libra, The Scorpio, The Sagittarius, The Capricorn, The Aquarius, The Pisces.
I think this is a very wearable palette. If you hide the shades Aries, Aquarius, and Pisces the palette is fairly neutral and wearable and a perfect fall palette with the pops of plum and magenta. I think my three favorite shades are the last three; Capricorn, Aquarius, and Pisces. I love the matte blue, the vibrant aqua, and the black shade with gold glitter is just stunning.
One of the things Kathleen mentions in her announcement video is that The Zodiac and her previous ColourPop palette, Dream St, were meant to coordinate with one another.
When I look at the palettes side by side I definitely see some color combos that just speak to me. I’ve been using The Zodiac palette for the last week and I love it. The quality of the shadows are amazing for the price point and I think its a very well thought out color story. I also love how much effort Kathleen put into creating each shade to match the sign.
I will do a separate post with some looks from this palette. Did you pick up anything from this collection? Have a great weekend!
